Low-Fat Chocolate Cake Recipe

  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar


  • 1. In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. In another bowl, whisk egg whites, water and corn syrup. Stir into dry ingredients. Pour into a 9-in. square baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Dust with confectioners' sugar. Yield: 12 servings.

"Was a little dry...I cooked for 30 to start with and inserted toothpick which did not come out clean so I left it in the oven for another 5. Next time I will try pulling it out early anyway and see how it turns out. Great chocolaty flavor though!"
