Hard-Shell Ice Cream Sauce Recipe

Hard-Shell Ice Cream Sauce Recipe

I keep the ingredients for this chocolate sauce on hand so I can make it any time I need an easy dessert. It's very rich and delicious. People like that it forms a crunchy shell over the ice cream...much like a treat from an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.—Brenda Jackson, Garden City, Kansas
TOTAL TIME: Prep/Total Time: 15 min. YIELD:8 servings

  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds

  • 1. In a heavy saucepan, combine chocolate chips, butter and milk. Cook and stir over low heat until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Serve warm over ice cream (sauce will harden). "This sauce tasted great but if I make it again I will try it with more evaporated milk to make it thinner. The consistency was very thick, and when put on ice cream took awhile to turn into a "magic shell". A thinner consistency would make a much tastier and crunchy shell."

"Much better than the store bought brands. It makes a lot and it's cheaper. Very yummy!"

"This is yummy, easy, and quick! I stored the leftover sauce in the fridge and then microwaved before using again. My husband and I enjoyed this sauce several times."
