Reviews for Grilled Three-Cheese Potatoes
"I have made a similar recipe for years, both on the grill and in oven. I find it best to parboil the potatoes first until they are partially cooked, then they won't take as long to grill or bake & cheese won't over cook. My family calls them my Cheesy Potatoes and they are a favorite standby."
"Had them tonight. Delicious! A keeper??"
"Ok, these are awesome! I made them exactly as the recipe states, except I used sea salt in place of seasoned salt and red onion for the regular onion (what I had on hand). I also was able to use all organic ingredients, which was a bonus! These were absolutely delicious. I made them ahead of time and put them in the refrigerator until we were ready to grill out (about 5 hours ahead of time). We had some issues with the potatoes sticking to the aluminum foil, but that was only because we were trying to scrape every last bite out...hahaha. This recipe is a must for summer grilling!"
"Omitted the bacon - and you can even cut down on the cheese and these are still good."
"These were great! I made them in the oven with ham. The whole family loved them. I only used half of a large sweet onion as my daughter does not like onions and they were still very tasty. I think I will microwave the potatoes first next time as they took over an hour in the oven for the potatoes to get done. I also will try them on the grill! Thanks for sharing!"
"If anyone has cooked this in the oven, did you cover it or leave it open? I am looking forward to trying this dish."
"I added sliced mushrooms as well as onions on top. Everyone loved this side dish. Seems to go well with any meat cooked on the grill."
"I chunked up the potatoes and microwaved for 5 minutes before preparing the foil packets. I forgot to spray the foil. I omitted the onion and added a couple tablespoons of fresh chives from the garden. I forgot salt, pepper, and Parmesan. Due to the microwave pre-cooking, they were done in less than 30 minutes. They came out crunchy around the edges and absolutely delicious!! Will do this again and again."
"This sounds like a good idea for barbecues. Just leave out the meat then you have something hot for the vegetarians. The parcels are also small enough to make use of the oven floor when cooking cakes or other things. Will definitely try this."
"Very good! I baked it in the oven as well. The family asked when I was going to make it again. I did a few changes, cubed ham instead of bacon. Also I didn't use salt ( plenty in the cheese) . It is definitely a keeper. :)"
"We cooked this like a casserole, and it was fabulous!"
"Great addition to cook with your grilled meat. Potatoes topped with onion, bacon and cheesy deliciousness, who wouldn't love it?"
"Wonderful!!!! I will try not to overdue the seasoned salt, as I normally over salt things, but this is a very easy and super cheesy recipe! Halved it for just my husband and I, and had plenty of leftovers. They heat up pretty easily. We just re-wrapped them in the foil, refrigerated them, and then just threw the package in the oven to warm up. Almost tasted better the next day!"
"Very good but salty. Will make again but will cut back on seasoned salt and maybe try low sodium bacon. I have made it with ham instead of bacon also, again salty but it does taste very good."
"These grilled potatoes tasted so delicious. I substituted seasoned salt with Penzey's Forward Seasoning and I cut the potatoes in cubes and it still turned out great! Will definitely be grilling these potatoes again!"
"I have only made these baked in the oven, but they are fantastic! My whole family loves them. They taste like potato skins, but with some actual potatoes. They have become a regular side item in my house."
"I made this for a neighborhood potluck, one with onion, and one without. Baked in the oven for just a little over an hour. (That's the way my oven is) It was a rave. Heard from some that these were the best potatoes they ever tasted, and the best dish at the pot luck."
"Very good recipe. Definitely would make it again only next time I would use less onions than the recipe calls for."
"This is very easy. I just wash potatoes well, and slice them, unpeeled...keeps the vitamins. This needs some liquid so I drizzled with several tablespoons of Italian Dressing, and used the dried Italian herb mix in place of the listed herbs. Dot with a little butter, and done!!"
"This was great! I cut it in half for my husband and myself. The only change I made was to season the potatoes BEFORE spreading the cheeses and bacon on top, sprinkling on what I thought I needed. We only had a small portion left but my husband said to make sure and put it in the refrig. and not throw the small portion away! He really liked it!"
"I made it without the meat and it was very yummy."
"We thought this was good. But I used russet potatoes and I didn't like the taste. I would like to know if anyone has tried any other type of potatoe?"
"10 min prep time. Simple, delicious, no clean up. I loved this recipe."
"We have been making these for years on camping trips or any time we grill outdoors. If you want to kick up the flavor sprinkle potatoes with onion and garlic powder as well as the seasoning salt. YUM!"
"I made this in the oven last night. My family loved it and my daughter-in-law wanted the recipe. I will be making it again."
"I make a similar dish in a foil lined grilling basket. After salting and peppering the potatoes, I add butter. We cook about 15 min. and turn basket over. After removing from grill, we open foil and add cheese and bacon bits and cover loosely until cheese melts. Delicious!!!"
"I made this a few weeks ago in the oven, since we were having ribs on the grill and there was no room for the packets. It was so good I wanted to make it again, but couldn't remember where I put the recipe! Thank goodness I was able to find it again! Thanks for a great cheesy side dish!!"
"Picked this one out for our work BBQ tested this past week-end and it was a hit! A definate do over and on the work BBQ menu for this week!"
"These look great, but are a mess to actually make and didn't have that much flavor."
"These are fantastic!!!! There are really no words to explain how great these are! The flavor is great and so easy to prepare. My whole family LOVED these. Thanks for the recipe."
"Great recipe. All the cheese and bacon put this over the top!"
"this rescipe is great it was a hit a recent family gathering."
"I have made these many times in the oven. My family loves them. I would like to also try these on the grill. My family likes them also with green peppers on top."
"This tastes just like stuffed potato skins! Unfortunately started to rain and had to cook inside. Can't wait to make it on the grill."
"My husband, who loves potatoes in just about any way, shape or form, adores these. (My daughter and I like 'em too!) If your family is smaller, this is an easy recipe to halve."
"My receipe is basically the same, but to make the whole thing easier, I go to the local dollar store and buy the foil 9X12 pans then cover with foil sheets. It's easier to transport to and from the grill an less messy."
"I recently tried this dish and it has become and instant family favorite. I am sure to make again. Thanks to my fellow Hoosier."
