Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups beer or nonalcoholic beer
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 beef top sirloin steaks (1-1/2 pounds each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the first 10 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes or until thickened. Set aside 3/4 cup and keep warm.
  • Sprinkle steaks with salt and pepper. Grill steaks, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 9-13 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium 140°; medium-well, 145°), basting occasionally with remaining sauce. Slice meat and serve with reserved sauce.
