Grilled Red Chili Steak

This super-simple recipe turns regular steak into a mouthwatering entree. I like it best with ground ancho chili powder and a little salsa on the side. —Mary Relyea, Canastota, New York

  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 pound beef top sirloin steak
  • Salsa


  • Combine the first 7 ingredients; rub over steak.
  • Grill steak, covered, over medium heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°). Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with salsa.
