Golden Egg Bread

"Cut this lovely loaf into thick slices to fix excellent French toast," recommends Sybil Brown of Highland, California. "It also makes good sandwiches and very tasty cheese toast," she adds.

  • 3/4 cup water (70° to 80°)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3-1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast


  • In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select basic bread setting. Choose crust color and loaf size if available.
  • Bake according to bread machine directions (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed).

    This bread is so good!!! The bread was nice and soft and tasted great. This is the first time I have used a bread machine and this came out perfectly. I set it for a 2 lb loaf with light crust. It made wonderful french toast for breakfast. So yummy. Will be making this one again. Thanks for sharing!

    It would be nice to know if this is for 1 1/2 lb or 2 lb bread machine recipe.

    So good!!!! It was pretty much foolproof. I followed the exact recipe and it was delicious. The texture is excellent because it is soft enough to be yummy but tough enough to hold up in a sandwich. This is going to become a staple.

    I am just now playing around with a bread machine, someone brought theirs into work, this recipe is a keeper, I did however substitute melted butter for the oil and honey for the sugar, like I said just playing with recipes.. but this is very good, great smell, good texture.. Thanks!

    Yes, this is a great recipe. It turned out the best I've had since my mom made bread during my childhood. I used milk instead of water the second time I made it, brown sugar and three teaspoons of yeast. Just tweaked it a bit but it turned out very good.
