There’s nothing quite like a frozen slush drink on a hot day. This slush drink recipe is one of the easiest chilled beverages to throw together for a summer soiree or any time you need simple punch recipes.

This semi-frozen drink requires only a few ingredients, including various fruit juices and a freezer. No other special equipment necessary! And while this slush drink recipe is zero-proof, you can easily make it boozy with your spirit of choice, similar to this brandy slush.

Ingredients for Slush Drink

  • Pineapple juice: Any brand of pineapple juice will do for this slush drink. Try to find one that doesn’t have added sugar, since there’s already a lot of sugar added to this drink.
  • Frozen juice concentrates: By using frozen orange juice and lemonade concentrate, you’re already on the road to slush drink heaven. The frozen consistency will help the slush drink freeze faster.
  • Powdered drink mix: Our recipe calls for powdered cherry drink mix, but you can use any red fruit flavor you’d like.
  • Sugar: The sugar helps make this slush drink nice and sweet, plus it helps keep the drink from freezing into a solid mass in the freezer.
  • Soda: Once the slush is frozen, you scoop it into a glass and top with grapefruit or lemon-lime soda. The bubbles help soften the frozen crystals and make it more slush-like.

Directions

Step 1: Make the slush drink mix

In a 6-quart container, combine the pineapple juice, water, frozen orange juice and lemonade concentrates, sugar, raspberries and soft drink mix. Cover the bowl, and freeze for 12 hours, stirring every two hours.

Step 2: Make slush drinks

For each serving, scoop 1/2 cup of fruit slush into a cup, and top with 1/2 cup grapefruit soda or lemon-lime soda.

Editor’s Tip: Try club soda instead of the fruit-flavored soda for a less-sweet finish.

Recipe Variations

  • Adjust the sweeteners: You can lessen the amount of sugar to your taste, or use a sugar alternative.
  • Use different fruit juices: Instead of pineapple juice, try mango, passionfruit, cranberry or white grape juice. And limeade or raspberry lemonade frozen concentrates are delicious alternatives to lemonade.
  • Make it boozy: Turn these slush drinks into boozy slush drinks! Follow the directions for cranberry-orange vodka slush. Basically, just add vodka to the mixture before you put it in the freezer.
  • Blend it smooth: You can pour the slush drink into a high-powered blender, and blend until it’s completely smooth. Add more ice or soda for the consistency you desire.
  • Garnish with fruit: Save some raspberries to garnish your slush drink, or add mint leaves, citrus peels or other berries to the glass.

Can you store slush drinks?

You can store the slush drink mixture in the freezer for up to three months.

Slush Drink Tips

How long does it take to turn liquid into slush?

It takes at least a few hours for liquid to turn into slush, no matter the ingredients. With this slush drink, you’ll start to see ice crystals form after two hours. You can let it freeze for up to 12 hours so it stays nice and frozen in your cup. Stirring it sporadically while it freezes will help keep the drink more slush than solid.

What should you do if your slush drink freezes solid?

The sugar content should keep the slush drink from freezing into a solid mass, but if it does, simply leave it out at room temperature, and stir it frequently until it loosens up.
