Frosted Fudge Brownies Recipe

Frosted Fudge Brownies Recipe

A neighbor brought over a pan of these rich brownies along with the recipe when I came home from the hospital with our baby daughter. I asked her how to make brownies like that, and I've made them ever since for family occasions, potlucks and parties at work. —Sue Soderlund, Elgin, Illinois
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 10 min. + cooling Bake: 25 min. + cooling YIELD:24 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FROSTING:
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup whole milk

Directions

  • 1. In a saucepan, melt butter. Remove from the heat. Stir in cocoa; cool. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until blended. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to egg mixture. Stir in vanilla and the cooled chocolate mixture until well blended.
  • 2. Spread into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack.
  • 3. For frosting, in a large bowl, cream butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in cocoa and vanilla. Add enough milk until the frosting achieves spreading consistency. Spread over brownies. Cut into bars. Yield: 2 dozen.

"Good, but not the best I've had. I did not frost them. These were more cake-like."

"This recipe is great! Moist and delicious. I made with dark cocoa powder. Didn't change a thing other than that and wow! It's a keeper."

"Absolutely the worst brownies I have ever had in my life. I don't understand how this recipe got so many good reviews unless they are paid ratings. I followed the recipe as written and the brownie batter came out thick and clumpy, came out dry and the frosting stayed wet. This was a huge waste of time and ingredients, very dissapointed."

"These are easily the best brownies I've ever made! I will never use another brownie recipe again...I've even thrown all my other brownie recipes away. I followed the recipe except for when I melted the butter and cocoa I put both in the microwave for a minute. Came out great! So moist with a lightly crispy crust (but not hard), perfect! YUM!!!! And, make sure you make the frosting too! Thanks!"

"I have been making this recipe for years. In fact it is the only brownie I will even think about baking. People always rave that these are the best brownies they have ever tasted. This is a recipe well worth trying."
