French Toast Waffles

TOTAL TIME: Prep: 15 min. Cook: 5 min./batch YIELD: 16 waffles.
I’m a from-scratch cook but also like shortcuts. Since we love French toast and waffles, I use a waffle iron to make a hybrid French toast. —Linda Martindale, Elkhorn, WI

Ingredients

  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 16 slices Texas toast
  • Maple syrup

Directions

  • 1. In a large bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients until blended. Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture. Place in a preheated waffle iron; bake until golden brown, 4-5 minutes. If desired, cut waffles into thirds. Serve with syrup.
