French Toast Waffles

YIELD: 16 waffles.
I’m a from-scratch cook but also like shortcuts. Since we love French toast and waffles, I use a waffle iron to make a hybrid French toast. —Linda Martindale, Elkhorn, WI
Ingredients

8 large eggs

2 cups 2% milk

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

16 slices Texas toast

Maple syrup
Directions

In a large bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients until blended. Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture. Place in a preheated waffle iron; bake until golden brown, 4-5 minutes. If desired, cut waffles into thirds. Serve with syrup.
