I made these with the following changes. My family doesn't eat kidney or lima beans. So I used a can of Bush's baked beans, and replaced the lima beans with a can of great northern beans. Now my family cleans the dish.

I added this recipe to my baked bean rotation. Good flavors. I liked the assortment of beans.

I have made this recipe many times, starting with a 4th of July potluck, and have taken it to other potlucks as well - it's a great dish for that, and always a hit. I am not a fan of ground beef and have always made the following substitution: Aidell's Italian Chicken Sausages, finely diced. I also like to kick up the heat a bit, and so add 1 1/2 finely chopped serrano chili and saute it with the meat and onions. Like others, I omit the lima beans, and I use cannelloni/small white beans instead. I also eliminate the white sugar and just use the brown sugar. Thanks for the recipe.

These are really delicious. My family loves them and I like to make them and take them to potlucks as well. A very good baked bean recipe and a little different than most.

Great as side or main dish

I made this and took it to our 4th of July celebration and have made it again since then. It was delicious and a great change to typical baked beans. I made it as the recipe is written except for using cannellini beans in place of the lima beans. It has since replaced my previous tried and true baked bean recipe and it always goes over well with a crowd.

We really enjoyed the mixture of beans in this dish. The only thing I would change is the amount of sugar. I cut back on it but will probably eliminate the white sugar completely.

Loved this recipe. I ended up using 4 x 15 oz. cans of pork and beans, 1 can of kidney bean, and 1 can of butter beans and left all the other ingredient measurements the same. I let it simmer in a slow cooker during the morning of the cookout so the flavors could mesh together and put it in the oven during the last hour. Turned out fantastic. Best baked beans dish I've made ever.
