Ingredients

  • 3 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange zest
  • 30 pitted dates

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, confectioners' sugar and orange zest until blended.
  2. Carefully make a slit in the center of each date; fill with cream cheese mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

What kind of dates should you use?

Medjool or Deglet Noor dates are most common, and are likely what you will find in the grocery store most easily. Either will work perfectly for this stuffed date recipe.

What else can you use to stuff dates?

Common ingredients you can stuff dates with include goat cheese or ricotta, and whole water chestnuts. If you want to make a sweet stuffed date, fill it with peanut butter and dip it in chocolate. You can also stuff them with almonds and make bacon-wrapped dates (another common date recipe).
