Easy Asian Glazed Meatballs

As a writer and busy mom of three boys, I need tasty meals on the quick. We serve these glazed meatballs over a steaming bed of rice. —Amy Dong, Woodbury, Minnesota

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha chili sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 package (12 ounces) frozen fully cooked homestyle or Italian meatballs, thawed
  • Optional: Thinly sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds
  • Hot cooked rice

Directions

  • In a large saucepan, mix the first 6 ingredients until blended. Add meatballs, stirring to coat; cook, covered, over medium-low heat until heated through, 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • If desired, sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve with rice.

    Delicious! I used some homemade meatballs instead that I had left over from a previous recipe I'd made. The sauce is very tasty! It does not make a huge amount of sauce, but it was just enough. Loved the sesame seeds on top!

    This was crazy good! Flavor from all angles! Didn’t use the raisins and wasn’t up to making homemade meatballs so I used some that my Mr. found at Aldi. Other than that, it was as written. It’s DEFINITELY a “Keeper”.

    My husband thought this was a 5, I thought this was a 3. Maybe it was the meatballs I used, but the entire flavor was just so overpowering. The hoisin sauce the vinegar was just too much and by the time I was finished it felt like my tongue was raw. We did put ours on rolls instead of over rice, so maybe that's the difference. Either way, I doubt I'll be making this again.

    We loved this combination of flavors. I’m glad I took the advice of others and doubled the sauce, but I DIDN’T double the brown sugar...and am glad. It was still plenty sweet. I also added 1 extra tsp of Sriracha (3 total) and 1/4 tsp of ground red pepper. That was PERFECT for us. Not overly sweet and with a bit of a kick. (I used a 20oz bag of homestyle meatballs.) This will be my go-to glaze recipe. Don't leave out the green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

    These were definitely fast and easy and had good flavor. All the members of my household thought they needed more sauce, though, so next time, I would try doubling the sauce (and maybe thin it out a little).

    Although I had to triple the recipe but only had 1/2 cup hoisin sauce (added 1 cup homemade teriyaki sauce), the flavor of the hoisin sauce came through. I only had large frozen meatballs but they worked well for an entree. Glazed well, leftovers more sticky and spicy.

    Very fast and easy! I expected it to have a bit of a kick but this was not the case. I think a bit more Sriracha sauce should improve the flavor for us. Thanks for posting.

    Really tasty! I loved the speed this could be assembled, not to mention family loved it. I doubled the sauce and used a 20oz pkg of meatballs.

    Loved this. I did make my own meatballs but I used this sauce exactly and cooked as directed. Will make again!

    These were great! They were very easy to make for a weeknight meal. I used a bit more Sriracha sauce and they had a bit more heat at the end. I also doubled the recipe. I did not use the sesame seed or onion....didn't need it. My 14 year old loves Quinoa and I served hers over that. The rest of us had them over rice. Awesome, will definitely make again! Thanks for sharing!
