Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • Oil for deep-fat frying

Directions

  1. Cut onion into 1/4-in. slices; separate into rings. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and seasoned salt. In another shallow bowl, whisk egg and milk. Place bread crumbs in a third shallow bowl. Coat onion rings with flour mixture; dip into egg mixture, then dip into flour mixture and egg mixture again. Coat with bread crumbs, pressing to adhere.
  2. In an electric skillet or deep fryer, heat oil to 375°. Fry onion rings, a few at a time, for 30 seconds on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with additional seasoned salt.
