Cinnamon French Toast

Cinnamon and nutmeg give French toast an extra tasty twist in this terrific recipe. Serve with fresh fruit, syrup and whipped cream, if you're feeling fancy! —Angela Sansom, New York, New York

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 slices day-old white or whole wheat bread
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • Maple syrup
  • Mixed fresh berries

Directions

  • 1. In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until blended. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. In batches, dip both sides of bread in egg mixture.
  • 2. Place in skillet; toast until golden brown, 2-3 minutes on each side, adding more butter to pan as needed. If desired, serve with syrup, berries and additional butter.
