Cherry Marble Cake Recipe

"This recipe was given to me by a friend years ago," says Tessa Downing from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. "It's the perfect cake to mix up at the last minute. Choose any fruit pie filling, such as blueberry, peach or apple. If you use apple, sprinkle a little cinnamon on top."
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 15 min. Bake: 30 min. YIELD:16-20 servings

  • 1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°. In a greased 13x9-in. baking pan, combine cake mix and oil. Combine eggs and water; stir into cake mix until blended. Drop tablespoons of pie filling into batter; cut through batter with a knife to swirl.
  • 2. Bake 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean (top will have an uneven appearance). Cool on a wire rack. Yield: 16-20 servings.

"Since I am a diabetic, I used sugar free cake mix and no added sugar cherry pie filling. Very good!"

"This cake turns out nicely and with a great flavor. It didn't bake well, though. At 35 minutes, I turned the oven to 325 and left the cake in for another 7 minutes... Next time I'll try baking it at 330 or so the whole time and see if the results are better. Thanks for the recipe!"

"This is a great twist on a classic recipe. Not only do you get a super moist cake but the beauty of the cherry stands out when cutting the cake. I used a bunt pan and dusted with powder sugar. Although the classic chocolate cake is wonderful combined with cherry pie filling it doesn't stand up against the visual appeal of the red cherries streaking through the golden cake. Try this fun cake!"
