Best Fudgy Brownies Recipe
- 1-1/3 cups butter, softened
- 2-2/3 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup baking cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Confectioners' sugar, optional
- 1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, cocoa and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
- 2. Spread into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until the top is dry and the center is set. Cool completely. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

They went in the trash. Maybe melting the butter or using oil instead would help, and cutting back on the cocoa and flour...but I'm not even going to waste my ingedients by trying again."

"Delicious and simple. This is the second time that I have made them and they came out beautifully each time. They do take longer than 25 minutes. An additional 5-10 minutes depending on your oven and the altitude. If the butter/sugar mixture isn't light and fluffy than the butter wasn't soft enough. This happened to me the first time. Don't fret, they still turn out. And they are thick no matter what! They are "fudgy brownies" so don't let that freak you out. It was thick enough that it was difficult to spread in the pan. I just plopped it in, put it in the oven for a couple minutes, and then pulled it out to smooth it before putting it back in. Delicious! They were a hit with my coworkers and were requested again for my boss' birthday. Don't sub margarine or Splenda! Just go for it and enjoy :)Btw- it's bad form to rate brownies with 1star simply because there are no nuts. You lowered the entire overall review dramatically because you prefer it with nuts? That's really silly. This doesn't make them "not real brownies", just not your preference. If you want them so much, just add them! There are so many people with severe nut allergies that it is smart to leave them out."

"These are our favorite brownies because we like "chewy" brownies rather than cake-like brownies. I have never had problems with the recipe and made it dozens of times. They are anything but dry-they are very moist and chewy. I would suspect it could have been the Splenda and maybe try them again with regular sugar. Also, did you mix the butter/sugar by hand or with a mixer? The batter is a bit thicker but not as thick as you describe."

"I tried the 'Fudgy Brownies' for the first time a couple days ago and I was so disappointed I almost cried. Right from the start things were wrong in the recipe it says to mix the cream butter and sugar until "light and fluffy" will that isn't how it came out. It was thick and stiff and every time I added another ingredient it got even worst. I double checked my ingredients then triple checked them. I double and tripled check the amount of each ingredient and I did and used exactly as the recipe said too. It came out very, very dry and almost tasteless. The only thing I used as an alternative was I used Splenda NO Calorie Sweetener instead of regular sugar and that should not have made a bit of difference. What did I do or what should I have done if anything??? I"ve check and the Splenda should not have made any difference at all.Steve from Steve's Kitchen."
