Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Few drops hot pepper sauce
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  • 1. In a saucepan, cook onion in butter until tender. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered, for 20-30 minutes or until sauce reaches desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Use as a basting sauce when grilling hamburgers or chicken and/or use as a condiment. Store in the refrigerator.

    It was way too "vinegary' for me! I counter-balanced that with some baking soda and then it cam out really nice. I also added a bit of liquid smoke. I will make it again but I will half the vinegar amount. (it was apple cider vinegar). We used it on our grilled pork chops. There were none left, so it wasn't horrible!! ;)

    I made this sauce for pork chops. I substituted "vinegar" with cider vinegar and it was so tasty! Big hit with the entire family. I was able to make the sauce ahead of time and then put it in the fridge until I was ready to cook the pork chops. I ended up having the cook the pork chops longer than 20 minutes, but using a thermometer helped me determine when they were done (160 degrees).
