Baked Ham with Pineapple Recipe

Baked Ham with Pineapple Recipe

I first learned how to cook a ham with pineapple for a themed dinner my husband and I hosted. Since it was widely known as the symbol of hospitality, pineapple was the star ingredient on our menu and on this lovely ham. —JoAnn Fox, Johnson City, Tennessee
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 10 min. Bake: 2 hours YIELD:16-20 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 fully cooked bone-in ham (6 to 8 pounds)
  • Whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 can (8 ounces) sliced pineapple, drained
  • 5 maraschino cherries

Directions

  • 1. Place ham in roasting pan. Score the surface with shallow diagonal cuts, making diamond shapes; insert cloves into diamonds. Cover and bake at 325° for 1-1/2 hours. Combine brown sugar and pineapple juice; pour over ham. Arrange pineapple and cherries on ham. Bake, uncovered, 30-45 minutes longer or until a thermometer reads 140° and the ham is heated through. "This was delicious. I scored the top of my 6 1/2 pound semi boneless half fully cooked ham and then sprinkled ground clove over it. Covered with foil and baked at 325 for 90 minutes. Took out of oven to add glaze. Note: I added a tablespoon of honey mustard to the pineapple juice and brown sugar mixture. Poured on top and brushed it around to make sure the glaze covered all areas. I then put 6 pieces of pineapple on top. Used toothpicks to secure. Put back in oven for 30 minutes. Checked it and spooned the glaze over the top and put back in oven for about 10 more minutes until it reached 140. It was perfect!!"

"I have been using this recipe for decades except that I add a tablespoon of yellow mustard to the pineapple juice and brown sugar glaze for a little extra zing."

"I made this for my husband's family Christmas. My in-laws are very picky, and they loved this even over the Honey-Baked ham. It's a keeper!"
