Coated in well-seasoned breading and fried to golden perfection, air-fryer ravioli makes for a delicious appetizer when served with your favorite dipping sauce. Air frying it will give the ravioli the ideal texture: a nicely crisp exterior and silky-soft interior. We use a mix of seasoned bread crumbs, basil and Parmesan to give the ravioli even more flavor in our recipe. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients for Air-Fryer Ravioli

  • Seasoned bread crumbs: Use seasoned panko (Japanese-style bread crumbs) if you prefer a lighter and crunchier texture.
  • Parmesan cheese: Grated (or very finely shredded Parmesan) helps it adhere better to the ravioli.
  • Dried basil: Feel free to use another herb if desired, such as oregano or thyme.
  • All-purpose flour: Flour creates a dry coating which helps the breading stick to the ravioli.
  • Eggs: Make sure your eggs are at room temperature before using so they blend well.
  • Frozen beef ravioli: Use cheese or spinach ravioli if you’d prefer; just remember to properly defrost your ravioli before using (it’ll be less chewy).
  • Fresh minced basil: Sprinkling the just-fried ravioli with fresh basil gives it a bright, earthy flavor.
  • Marinara: The tanginess of marinara complements the richness of the cheese and beef, but we also like serving these ravioli with homemade pesto.

Preheat the air fryer to 350°F. In a shallow bowl, mix the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and basil. Place the flour and eggs in separate shallow bowls. Dip the ravioli in the flour to coat both sides; shake off the excess. Dip it in the eggs and then the crumb mixture, patting to help the coating adhere.

Editor’s Tip: If you don’t have an air fryer, you can make this recipe in a deep fryer, electric skillet or on the stovetop.

Step 2: Arrange and fry the ravioli

In batches, arrange the ravioli in a single layer on the greased tray in the air-fryer basket; spritz with cooking spray. Cook until golden brown, about three to four minutes. Turn and spritz with cooking spray. Cook until golden brown, for three to four minutes longer. If desired, immediately sprinkle with the basil and additional Parmesan cheese. Serve warm with marinara sauce.

Air-Fryer Ravioli Recipe Variations

  • Serve it with pesto or alfredo (instead of marinara): Air-fryer ravioli pairs beautifully with alfredo or pesto sauce; both help to balance out the other flavors of the ravioli.
  • Top with garlic cream sauce: For an extra-indulgent dish, serve your ravioli with homemade garlic cream sauce.

How to Store Air-Fryer Ravioli

To store your leftover ravioli, place it in an airtight container in the fridge (sans dipping sauce so it doesn’t get soggy). It will last for up to five days.

Can you freeze air-fryer ravioli?

Yes, you can freeze the uncooked ravioli to fry at a moment’s notice. We’d recommend flash freezing it on a baking tray for about 20 minutes and then transferring the ravioli to a freezer-safe container with a tightly fitting lid.

While visiting a friend in St. Louis, Missouri, I tried fried ravioli at almost every restaurant we visited. When I got home, I had to try to replicate them, and I think this air-fryer ravioli recipe comes pretty close. —Cristina Carrera, Kenosha, Wisconsin
