3-Ingredient Sugar Cookies

YIELD: 2 dozen.
Customize this easy recipe by adding vanilla or almond extract. You could even mix in sprinkles or miniature chocolate chips. For a fun look, dip the tops in nonpareils before baking. —Molly Allen, Ellensburg, Washington

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

Preheat oven to 325°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Gradually beat in flour until crumbly. Press dough together with hands until it holds together when pressed. Shape into 1-in. balls and flatten slightly; place 2 in. apart on greased or parchment-lined baking sheets.

Bake until very lightly browned, 12-14 minutes. Cool on pans 5 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
