Low-Fat Ground Beef

To lower fat in recipes that call for 1-1/2 to 2 pounds ground beef, I use 3/4 pound extra-lean ground beef mixed with one can of rinsed, drained pinto beans instead. I brown the beef as usual with onions and other vegetables required for the recipe. Then I add the beans and mash them with a potato masher. I have used this base in many recipe where ground beef would normally be used, such as tacos, shepherd’s pie and sloppy joes…and it’s delicious. Stephanie L., Sudbury, Ontario
