How-to Open a Pomegranate

Cut off the crown of the fruit and score in quarters, taking care not to cut into the red juice sacs (arils).

Place the sections in a bowl of water and soak for 5 minutes. With your fingers, break sections open and gently push out the seed clusters. Discard skin and white membrane. Drain water, reserving arils. Dry on paper towels. The arils may be eaten whole, seeds and all.
