GIRLS SCOUTS OF THE USA "Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Contest" (#128) RULES


The "Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Contest" (#128) ("Contest") is sponsored by Girls Scouts of the USA ("GSUSA") and RDA Enthusiast Brands, LLC, the publisher of Taste of Home magazine ("RDA") (GSUSA and RDA, collectively, "Sponsor").

Judges will select 16 semi-finalists, which will then be put to one round of public voting, in accordance with the Voting Terms and Conditions for this Contest, to determine one Category and Grand Prize Winner and three Category Runners-Up. The Category and Grand Prize Winner, Category Runners-Up and all semi-finalists may have their names, photographs and recipes published in the February/March 2016 issue of Taste of Home magazine along with having their recipes featured on and The Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runners-Up may be required to make press appearances related to the public announcement of this Contest.


You are eligible to enter this Contest if you are a legal United States resident residing in one of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico and you are thirteen (13) years of age or older at the time of entry. Entries originating from any other jurisdiction are not eligible for entry.

The following people are not eligible to enter and will be disqualified if entered: Employees, directors, or officers of GSUSA, RDA, or any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries or affiliates, or of any promotion, advertising, judging or public relations company doing business with GSUSA, RDA, or any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries or affiliates, or a member of the immediate family (parent or legal guardian, children, siblings or spouse, regardless of where they live) or a member of the same household of any of the foregoing people (whether related or not). Girl Scout Councils and GSUSA are separate 501(c)(3) entities, and Girl Scout Councils are not considered affiliates of GSUSA. Accordingly, Girl Scout members who meet the age requirement, Girl Scout troop leaders and Girl Scout Council employees, officers and directors are eligible to enter this Contest, unless they fall within any of the prohibitions above.

This Contest is void where prohibited or otherwise regulated.

Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor's decisions, which are final and legally binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.


The Contest submission period begins no later than 12:01pm (Eastern Time) on February 2nd, 2015 and ends at 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on March 2nd, 2015. All submissions must be received by 11:59pm (Eastern Time) on March 2nd, 2015. GSUSA's computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.

To enter electronically, go to and follow the instructions. Please fill in all requested information completely. In the event the Contest is entered via a mobile device, Message and Data charges may apply.

This Contest will consist of Desserts. Please submit your Girl Scout Cookie-inspired dessert recipe in one of the following four categories, using Girl Scout cookies as an ingredient:

  • Cakes, pies, cupcakes
  • Cookies, brownie, bars
  • Pudding, ice-cream, gelatin desserts
  • Candies

Include the recipe name and the number of servings the recipe yields. List each recipe ingredient with specific flavor, exact measurements or weights, and in the order used. Provide complete preparation directions including cooking/baking time and temperature and type of cookware used (including dimensions or size).

Each recipe entry should be submitted only once and in only one category. You may enter as many different recipes as you wish. Submit your recipe in the category that best fits your recipe. Sponsor reserves the right to move a recipe into a more suited category if desired.

All entries must be in English. Use of automated processes and devices to submit electronic entries are not permitted. Sponsor is not responsible for any changes or effects caused to the entrant's computer system as a result of submitting electronic entries.

All entries become the sole property of GSUSA upon receipt and will not be returned.


All entries must meet the Contest requirements. A panel of Taste of Home food experts will review and select recipes to test in the Taste of Home test kitchen based on the following criteria:

  • Taste: 25%
    • Does this recipe taste great with every bite? Does it have mass appeal? Would you want to make this recipe over and over again based on taste alone? Does it contain interesting, yet gratifying flavor combinations?
  • Visual Appeal: 25%
    • Does this recipe present beautifully on a plate or in a baking dish? Do your eyes make you want to eat this before you even smell or taste it?
  • Creativity: 25%
    • Is the recipe your original idea? Is the recipe reflective of unique twists to ingredient usage? Have you incorporated your personal touch to this recipe?
  • Crowd Appeal: 25%
    • Does your recipe appeal to fellow home cooks everywhere? Does the recipe have easy-to-find everyday ingredients and is it easy to make? Does the recipe have a story that will inspire many others to make it?

In the event of a tie, the highest score in the recipe creativity category will break the tie.

16 semi-finalist recipes will be chosen by a panel of Taste of Home food experts (4 from each sub-category). These 16 recipes will be put to a public vote to determine one Category and Grand Prize winner and three Category Runners-Up.

There will be one user-voting period in accordance with the Voting Terms and Conditions for this Contest. The voting period will consist of the 16 semi-finalists and will determine one Category and Grand Prize Winner and three Category Runners-Up. The public voting period will be held beginning on or about March 30, 2015 and ending on or about April 14, 2015. Users should log onto to vote on the 16 semi-finalists, choosing their favorite in each category. The submission that gets the most votes overall will be the winner of both the Category in which it was entered and of the Grand Prize (the "Category and Grand Prize Winner"). The submissions from each of the other three categories that get the most votes will be considered Category Runners-Up. Limit one vote per person per recipe in any 24 hour period during the voting period. In the event of technical difficulties, voting dates are subject to change without notice.

All recipes must be the original work of entrant and not previously published. You may use other recipes for inspiration, but you must make your own unique ingredient and cooking instruction changes in order for the recipe to be considered. Recipe must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity.

Sponsor will select and supply the ingredients and cooking equipment to be used during the judging. Final judging will be done by a panel of food experts. Decisions of the judges are final in all matters relating to this Contest.

The total number of recipes anticipated is 1,000.


Semi-finalists will be notified by March 27, 2015 via phone, email, and/or postal mail. Category and Grand Prize Winner and all Runners-Up will be notified on or about April 15, 2015, but no later than April 30, 2015, via phone, email, and/or postal mail. All semi-finalists, the Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runners-Up may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and a liability release, which will include a confidentiality clause, to be returned within three days of notification. Any potential semi-finalist, Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runner-Up who does not comply with this requirement or cannot be easily located using the information provided in the entry may be disqualified and an alternate may be selected. In the event any potential semi-finalist, Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runner-up is a minor in his or her state of residence, all required documentation must be signed by parent or legal guardian. Except where prohibited by law, winner will be required to grant to GSUSA all right, title and interest in the submitted entry and to sign a release giving GSUSA and its licensees (including but not limited to RDA) full rights to use the winner's name and likeness for Contest related advertising and publicity, including such usage on the internet.

The Category and Grand Prize winner and Category Runners-Up, their recipes, and photographs may be publicly announced and posted on and and may be published in an issue of Taste of Home magazine. The Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runners-Up may be required to make press appearances related to the public announcement of this Contest.


One Category and Grand Prize Winner and three Category Runners-Up will be selected. The three Category Runners-Up will each win $250. The one Category and Grand Prize Winner will win $500. The total amount of all prizes is $1,250. All taxes, if any, are the responsibility of the winners. Sponsor will not be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of any winner's acceptance or use of the prize. All prizes are guaranteed to be awarded, provided Sponsor receives a sufficient number of qualifying entries meeting the minimum judging criteria.


Sponsor and its promotion agencies are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, illegible, misdirected or otherwise undeliverable mail or entries. Sponsor is not liable for any malfunctions or failures of any telephone network lines, computer internet system, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of an email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading/uploading any materials relating to this Contest, or other technical difficulties or failures or other errors of any kind. Entrants agree to indemnify GSUSA and RDA, their respective parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates from and against any and all claims and liabilities arising out of or in connection with this Contest. In the event of any dispute regarding the identity of an entrant who submitted an online entry, the authorized account holder of the email address used for the entry at the time of entry will be deemed the entrant. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g. business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.

By submitting your recipe, you accept all Contest rules and agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which will be final. Sponsor reserves the right to edit for brevity and clarity, adapt, copyright, publish, transfer and use any or all entries in all print and electronic media without further compensation. Sponsor reserves the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest at any time for any reason. In such a circumstance, Sponsor will select the Category and Grand Prize Winner and Category Runners-Up based on eligible entries received to date of termination. In the event that two similar entries are received, only the entry judged to best meet criteria as set by Sponsor will be included in the final judging. In the case of duplicate recipes, the first entry received will be considered. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or violates the Official Rules.


To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief or to make any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with this Contest are hereby excluded, and any entrant expressly waives any and all such rights. In the event that a court of competent jurisdiction finds the foregoing waiver unenforceable, entrants hereby consent to the jurisdiction and venue residing exclusively within the federal or state courts sitting in New York County in the State of New York and agree that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. Entrants agree that these Official Rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without reference to principles of conflicts of law. If any provision(s) of these Official Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect.
