What to Look for in Weber Grill Accessories

As Weber Grill Master Jason Pruitt says, “When we talk with people about accessories, we typically begin by understanding what type of grill they have or are thinking about buying and what they like to cook.” This is to say, prospective grillers need to look at their accessories from a holistic perspective—it’s not just about the grill, but it’s about the food you want to make, too. Here are some factors to think about when shopping for Weber grill accessories:

Essential Items

Pruitt tells us, “There are certain accessories that are universally important for cooking with any grill, regardless of your outdoor cooking expertise and experience.” These include a grill brush, a pair of tongs, a spatula, and a set of grill gloves, all of which “are invaluable tools for any grill enthusiast.” If you’re going to get a grill and only want the bare bones, these are the ones you’d definitely want to consider.

He says anyone with an outdoor grill should get a grill cover to extend the grill’s life. “Our Weber grills are designed to be highly durable, and a grill cover acts as an added shield from the outdoor elements, protecting your investment even more.”

Fuel-Specific Grill Accessories

Different types of grills—charcoal, gas, wood pellet, etc.—may require different grilling accessories. For instance, a charcoal grill could benefit from a chimney starter and lighter cubes, which, as Pruitt says, “help in quickly and efficiently firing up the grill, ensuring you have the right type of smoke and heat for the food you are cooking.” Similarly, a wood pellet grill may benefit more from smoking-specific accessories, like a smoking rack, a fuel bag (to store pellets) and butcher paper.

Additional Accessories

For the sake of argument, let’s say you want the option to cook on a flat top, so you pick up a removable griddle top you can put down on your grill to expand your grill options (for things like vegetables, eggs, etc.). That’s not the end of it if you want to do it right; you’re going to need accessories for that addition, too. Pruitt says, “There are accessories we recommend that help to round out a positive cooking experience, such as a spatula, scraper, flexible spatula, and squeeze bottles.” Luckily, Weber has accessories for their accessories, making the shopping experience all the more positive. Pruitt also notes that “a rotisserie is hard to beat for people who like to cook on a pellet grill,” calling it perhaps the most under-the-radar accessory more people should consider.

Maintenance

Cleanliness is of the utmost importance, both for the safety of your food and to ensure a long life for your grilling accessories and tools. Pruitt notes, “Most Weber accessories can be hand-washed with dish soap and water, which we recommend doing after you’ve enjoyed a great meal cooked on your Weber grill or griddle.” He says that some are even dishwasher safe, making keeping them in working order as simple as tossing them in with the rest of your dishes.

If there’s one thing you should replace frequently (regardless of cleanliness), Pruitt says it’s the grill brush. “We encourage all outdoor cooks to inspect their cooking surfaces for any loose bristles or bristles stuck to the grill grates. If any are found, it is time for a new brush,” he says.

Storage

Having a proper place to store your Weber grill accessories can make your life easier, keep your tools safe and orderly and help keep them in better working order. ” Weber offers storage bins, on-the-grill tool hooks and closed cabinet shelving in our grills and griddles for easy storage of clean accessories,” Pruitt shares.

FAQ

What is the life expectancy of a Weber grill?

You should expect your Weber grill to last for at least a decade, but that life can be extended far longer with the right care, maintenance and accessories. As Pruitt says, “Our Consumer Care team is incredible—quickly sending replacement accessories to our owners so they can continue to create fantastic meals for their friends and family without skipping a beat.”

Do Weber grills rust out?

No, they shouldn’t. And the brand backs that up. As Weber’s site says, “You can safely leave your grill on the patio all year round, as it is built to withstand all normal weather conditions. This is why we confidently offer a rust and enamel guarantee on our grills.”

Should you clean a Weber grill after every use?

While a deep cleaning is probably not entirely necessary after every use, you should at least try to scrape the grates after each use. This can keep charred remains from cross-contaminating other food and can reduce the amount of carcinogens in your foods.

Should I season my Weber grill grates?

While you can, it is unnecessary. As Weber says, “Our grates do not require any seasoning or re-seasoning prior to use.”
