This Nostalgic Southern Brunch Menu Will Be the Best Meal of Your Week
Taste of Home assistant art director (and native New Orleanian) Ali Sullivan shares the recipes she makes when hosting her dream southern brunch.
Bananas Foster French Toast
I first tried bananas Foster French toast at a restaurant in the French Quarter. This dish reminds me of mornings spent sitting in Jackson Square watching the artists set up while the city slowly starts its day. Bananas Foster is actually a New Orleans original, so anything with caramelized bananas always feels a little nostalgic.
Million-Dollar Candied Bacon
Down South, a lot of our traditions revolve around food. Since every meal is a celebration, there’s no shame in a bit of decadence. This incredible bacon recipe serves up the perfect combination of sweet and savory. Although bacon is usually only savory, I’m totally comfortable bending the rules a little—after all, I am a New Orleanian.
Deep South Jalapeno Cheese Grits
Cheesy grits and bacon go hand in hand. This creamy, savory dish is exactly what I want alongside something crunchy on my brunch plate.
Cold Brew Iced Tea
Iced tea is a go-to for me, and my husband happily drinks it with breakfast, lunch and dinner. And since we’re talking about brunch, this is the perfect beverage to add alcohol to, if you like.
Drop Beignets
A sweet treat is essential to every meal, and brunch is no exception! I’d be happy if all my meals ended with this iconic New Orleans dish.
