10 Grandparents Day Activities Everyone Will Enjoy
On Grandparents Day, give the best gift possible—time together. Here are 10 Grandparents Day activities that will be fun for all ages.
September’s not only about Grandparents Day—it’s also a great time to go apple picking at a local orchard. Then when you get home with your bushels of fruit, you can spend a few hours making the best apple pie ever.
What’s more fun than dressing up in Grandma and Grandpa’s old clothes? Show your grandkids how stylish you are (or were). Get that plaid sports coat or those bell-bottoms out of the closet. Even better, find some of their parents’ outfits!
Enjoy a double feature
Get cozy on the couch for a movie night. Pick out one of your favorites (an old-school classic they haven’t seen) and let them pick out something they love that’s new to you. Don’t forget to make some snacks for your marathon.
Have a sleepover
Organize a sleepover—the best kind, where nobody really gets any sleep. Stay up all night playing board games, eating popcorn and telling embarrassing stories about their parents. Be sure and wrap things up with a big breakfast and one of our best pancake recipes.
Get some end-of-summer fresh air and spend some time in the backyard. Have a croquet tournament or a game of Frisbee. Then, make some homemade ice cream as a reward for all that exercise.
Keep the outdoor spirit going and take the young ones camping—even if it’s only in the backyard. Of course, you’ll want to make some s’mores around a campfire. Extra points if you go all out and try some of these other camping recipes, too.
Learn something new together by spending the day exploring the animals at your local zoo or the new exhibits at a nearby art or children’s museum. You’ll end the day feeling more knowledgeable and connected.
Make it game night
Whether your crew loves Monopoly or Hungry, Hungry Hippos, family game night is a great way to spend time together. Find out which games the kids love or dig something out from the back of the closet. Teach them how to play chess and you’ll have a partner for life.
