8 Genius Things to Do with Carnations from the Supermarket
Fabulous flowers don't have to cost an arm and a leg. Make a beautiful carnation bouquet (or wreath!) with these Instagram-inspired bunches.
Take a cue from this Indiana florist and weave carnations and greens through a rustic wreath for this dainty door accessory. Pale pinks and cream tones complement the understated eucalyptus leaves and earthy wood. Plus, eucalyptus is known to symbolize protection so it’s the perfect thing to hang on your front door all season long.
Heat Things Up
No date night (even a date night in) is complete without a beautiful bouquet. And what says romance better than red roses? Snag a few (or hope that your significant other brings you a dozen) and put them in a fancy vase, like designer Jing Harris did, with some bicolor carnations and a smattering of greens.
Here’s an easy (but ingenious!) idea: Buy two bunches of blooms and/or greenery, and plunk them next to each other in the same vase. For this bold look, Geranium used magenta carnations and metallic dusty miller.
Feel the Mood
To create this moodier mix, start with coral carnations, spiky godetia, hypericum berries and seeded eucalyptus—keep everything in shades of peach and ivory for a feminine feel. Then fill it out by weaving in bold accents of navy lace. Spraying your lace with fabric stiffener first will help hold it in place.
Take advantage of your supermarket’s floral-bundle deal and buy three different bunches. For this look, grab mini carnations, alstroemeria and something twiggy. You’ll feel like you’re in the great outdoors no matter where you display your gorgeous creation.
Get (Garden) Fresh
Have your veggies… and decorate with them, too, like this Instagrammer did. This seasonal centerpiece is straight out of the produce aisle—Brussels sprouts add an extra hint of green, and those fern-looking leaves are actually carrot tops. We love the carrots in the vase!
Sweeten the Deal
I scream, you scream, we all scream for…carnations! Do like the folks at Valley Voices did and place a bunch of carnations in a glass ice cream dish or homemade paper cone—you can pick the color based on your favorite flavor. Don’t forget the glittery cherry on top! (Now check out our favorite ice cream recipes.)
