Chocolate lovers just struck gold—literally.
The Hershey Company just announced the debut of its brand new candy bar called the “Hershey’s Gold.” This is the chocolatier’s first new flavor in over two decades; it launched its last chocolate bar, Cookies ‘n Crème, back in 1995. But funny enough, the candy contains no chocolate whatsoever. That’s okay, though. Science shows there are health benefits to eating any kind of dessert.
The new bars are actually made of caramelized cream and filled with bits of salty peanuts and pretzels. In a statement, Hershey revealed that browning the sugar turns the white cream gold, giving the Gold bars a “sweet, buttery taste.” The peanuts and pretzels, the company says, add a crunchy texture that candy customers have been craving.
“Consumers favor a complex combination of ingredients, which led to the unique variation of sweet and salty, crunchy and creamy,” according to Hershey. Are you a chocoholic? Here’s how you can become a professional chocolate taster (seriously!).
“The buttery, sweet taste of Hershey’s Gold bars provides an entirely new way for consumers to enjoy our brand,” Melinda Lewis, senior director/general manager of Hershey’s Franchise at The Hershey Company, said in the statement. “The launch of Hershey’s Gold will introduce Americans to a new flavor and a new experience unlike any others before.”
When the Hershey Company opened its doors in 1900, it sold only the original milk chocolate bar. Pretty soon, however, the chocolatier was offering treats such as the Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate in 1939 and later the Cookies ‘n Creme flavor.
You can find these golden bars on sale starting December 1. Can’t wait? The chocolate is currently available in Hershey’s Chocolate World theme parks in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and in Las Vegas, too. But that’s not the only new food release to tickle your taste buds. A Swiss manufacturer created a new type of chocolate—and it’s PINK.
