When ice water isn’t enough to quench thirst, people turn to electrolyte drinks. If you’re parched after sports, experiencing dehydration symptoms after illness or even nursing a small hangover, Gatorade or Pedialyte does the trick.

Now, though, these two well-known brands have a competitor.

Electrolit seemingly popped up overnight, much like pre- and probiotic sodas did last year. The brand has been around in the U.S. since 2014, but as hydration drinks have become increasingly popular, the bottles are now more readily available. It helps that Keurig Dr Pepper started distributing Electrolit in 2024—that may have brought this brand mainstream.

What is Electrolit?

Electrolit is an electrolyte beverage that claims to help your body recover after physical activity or heat exposure. The drink contains calcium, chloride, lactate, magnesium, potassium and sodium. These six ions (aka charged particles) are the electrolytes that help you stay hydrated.

Electrolit was created in Mexico in 1950 to help perk kids up after the flu. If this sounds like Pedialyte, that’s because it’s super similar! Now, Electrolit is used like Gatorade, to rehydrate after physical activity or long days spent in the hot sun. Like fruit-infused waters and caffeine-free teas, it’s a good drink to prevent dehydration.

Where can I buy Electrolit?

The hydration drink is sold nationally at convenience stores, grocery stores and online retailers. Stock up with 12-pack mixed flavors or single-flavor 12-packs on Amazon. Or, pick up individual bottles at Target, Walmart, 7-Eleven or Walgreens to test flavors before buying in bulk.

Right now, all Electrolit is made in Mexico, but demand in the U.S. has been so high that the brand plans to open a production facility in Texas in 2026.

What does it taste like?

In my opinion, Electrolit is quite sweet—much more so than the muted flavors of powdered hydration packets like Liquid I.V. It does have some flavors that stand out, though!

The blue-capped Electrolit has a shocking 16 flavors right now, including Orange, Fruit Punch, Grape, Strawberry Kiwi, Berry Bliss, Horchata, Passion Fruit, Guava, Hibiscus/Jamaica, Strawberry, Coconut, Lemon-lime, Apple, Cucumber Lime and Blue Raspberry.

Many of these are similar to typical sports drinks. The unexpected flavors are more fun—Hibiscus/Jamaica is meant to be similar to agua de Jamaica, and Horchata Electrolit mimics the flavors of traditional horchata, a spiced rice water drink.
