Food mashups are nothing particularly new. In recent years, the hipster foodies of the world have come up with many weird hybrids. From the cronut (croissant-donut) to the piecaken (a pie-cake combo perfect for Thanksgiving), we’ve been treated to many delights! Well, the latest is finally here: the tacro.

San Francisco’s latest trend

This intriguing trend comes all the way from Vive Le Tarte in San Francisco, where the bakers decided to make something a little different. As you may well guess from the name, a tacro is a cross between a taco and a croissant. Essentially, it’s the latter in a whole new shape, which means that you can fill it with whatever savory goodness you should desire.

At the bakery, there are three temptingly good fillings from which to choose—barbecued jackfruit, pulled pork or chile chicken with avocado. Once you’ve chosen your main filling, it’s time to add some creative toppings.The typical tacro comes with pickled onions, sliced radishes, red salsa and avocado salsa. In short, it sounds like a dream come true.

Not only are tacros delicious, but they’re also Instagram-friendly. Popping a picture of one of these beauties on your feed is sure to get you more than a few likes. After all, if there’s one thing that Instagrammers love, it’s a brand new food trend.


 

Coming soon: breakfast tacros

As though the idea of digging into a delicious lunch tacro wasn’t enough to get your mouth watering, there’s more still to come. The bakery owners plan to launch yet more fillings soon, including some morish breakfast options. That means that you will be able to combine your typical hot breakfast meal with a continental twist—a la the croissant.

Needless to say, these hybrid foodie treats are wildly popular. At $12 a piece, the tacros have been a huge hit and tend to sell out faster than you can say “Where’s my tacro?” The snacks go on sale at 11:00 each morning and have reportedly been selling out completely within two hours every single day. So, if you’re hoping to get your mitts on a tacro, you’d better be quick!
