Our old-fashioned rice pudding recipe is comfort food at its purest. There’s no whipping of eggs whites or tempering of chocolate. The classic dessert is supremely simple, made with plain but delicious ingredients. It starts with milk, rice, sugar and salt bubbled together on the stove. The mixture is then greeted by vanilla and raisins and left to mingle in the oven’s heat. The end result is a heavenly concoction ready to be eaten by the spoonful.
Although this dessert is delicious as-is, additional toppings take it to a whole other dimension. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg. For a more decadent take, add vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce or even a smidgen of lemon curd. We love how it takes such little effort to dress up a dessert like this. (We also love that this works well as a rich breakfast, too.)
