Apparently, adding cola to cakes is common in Georgia, according to recipe creator Heidi Jobe. Soda pop makes for an ultra-moist texture, as well as a sweet counterbalance to the cocoa powder. Even the frosting is made with cola, yielding an extra layer of flavor.
