When my 12-year-old immersion blender finally bit the dust, I was beside myself. Over the years, I had used my trusty hand blender for countless recipes, including baby food, my family’s favorite banana bread and soups. I was lost without it.

So, imagine my delight when our expert Product Testing Team took 10 different immersion blenders into the Testing Lab for a thorough inspection. After testing, they determined the Vitamix immersion blender is the most powerful option on the market.

That shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. After all, Vitamix is known for its powerful motors, quality construction and longevity. Here are all of the details on this small but mighty immersion blender.

Vitamix Immersion Blender

The Vitamix immersion blender is comfortable to hold, easy to maneuver and won't muck up your kitchen with splatter and kickback.

What is the Vitamix immersion blender?

The Vitamix immersion blender is a corded, handheld blender. It weighs 2.6 pounds, has stainless steel blending shaft/blades and features a comfortable rubber grip. A powerful 625-watt motor allows you to make everything from whipped cream to hearty soup in a matter of seconds.

"It should go without saying that you'll be getting a powerful motor with Vitamix, but we were so impressed with this one that it deserves to be called out again."
Dylan Fischer
Product Tester

This blender is also incredibly simple to use as it only has two buttons: a power button and a button that controls its five speeds. The Vitamix immersion blender isn’t dishwasher safe. The manufacturer recommends washing the blending wand in warm, soapy water. This model doesn’t come with a blending container but it fits in any container with a 3-inch wide (or larger) opening. If you prefer having a designated blending container, you can purchase a Vitamix immersion blender bundle.

How We Tested It

To find the best immersion blenders, our Product Testing Team tried 10 popular options from well-known brands. Our testers looked at features, performance and value, paying special attention to the ergonomics, maneuverability and ease of use for each model. They also noted which immersion blenders, if any, caused hand fatigue during use.

Soup Test

Our testers began by recording the weight and measurements of each immersion blender. Once they completed their initial intake, they put the blenders to work. They used each blender to puree hot soup with ingredients of various sizes and textures to assess the consistency of the finished result.

Product tester Annamarie Higley began by turning the blender on low. “The blender starts slowly, then ramps up when you first press the button. This is nice for splatter and kickback,” she explains. Annamarie blended the soup for 90 seconds and was impressed by the appliance’s smooth operation. She noted that there were no chunks remaining in the soup, though there was some grit at the bottom.

Vinaigrette Test

Next, Annamarie tested the blender’s emulsification capabilities by making a vinaigrette using a 1:3 vinegar-to-oil ratio. For this test, she set the blender to high and processed for 15 seconds, even though it appeared to be done within the first five seconds.

“It looked very creamy and emulsified,” notes Annamarie. After she was finished, she set it aside and timed how long it took the dressing to re-separate. It took three hours.

Whipped Cream Test

For their final test, our team used the standard blade attachment to whip cream. They monitored how much volume was added to the cream during the whipping process and how long it took for stiff peaks to form. Our testers found that after 30 seconds of blending, it didn’t gain much volume. That said, they found that that seemed to be the case for all whipped cream made with a blending wand rather than a whisk.

During testing, our team found the Vitamix immersion blender comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver. They also noted there was no suction and it created little to no messes even on high speeds.

Overall, our testers agree that although the Vitamix immersion blender is a splurge, you won’t regret bringing it into your kitchen. “This machine feels nice in your hand and churns out a great finished product, whether you’re making soup, whipped cream or salad dressing. We’ve tested standard Vitamix blenders, too, but this hand-held model was our favorite of all,” raves Annamarie.
