Virtual Egg Hunts Will Send Your Kids Outdoors for Easter—Here’s How to Join In

Spread some Easter cheer in your neighborhood with this social distancing-inspired egg hunt.

Easter may look a bit different this year, but that doesn’t mean kids can’t have fun. Even though social distancing will prevent traditional Easter egg hunts, with throngs of kids hunting for candy-filled eggs on the lawn, one mom in Atlanta came up with a great alternative. It’s a virtual egg hunt!

Like the teddy bear hunts gaining popularity right now, this egg hunt is meant to spread some much-needed cheer in neighborhoods across the country.

Pssst: Here are some more easy Easter activities for kids.

How the Egg Hunt Works

Participating in the virtual egg hunt is really easy (and we like easy!). First, get creative and craft an egg. It should be large enough that it can be seen from the sidewalk or the road, so try cutting one out of cardboard or a cereal box. Let your kiddos channel their inner Picasso to customize the eggs with paint, crayons, scrap paper, glitter…whatever makes them smile. That’s what this is all about. Once their masterpiece is complete, hang it somewhere it can be seen outside, like a window, door, or mailbox.

Then, when you’re done with your eggs, it’s time to head outside to see how many eggs you can find in your neighborhood. If walking isn’t an option, take a drive around town to do some egg-spotting. You can tag photos of your eggs with #springegghunt on Instagram to spread more awareness and joy.
