Despite KFC’s push for Chicken & Donuts, fast food chains have been reinventing themselves with more plant-based options. Most famously, Burger King introduced the Impossible Whopper last year, and Starbucks recently added almond, coconut and oat milks to its lineup of coffee mix-ins.
That’s not all, though. Starbucks reportedly has a new Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich in the works! The popular plant-based meat alternative might have us saying goodbye to breakfast staples like bacon, ham and sausage.
What Is This New Sandwich Like?
Each breakfast sandwich will contain a Beyond Meat patty flavored with spices like rosemary, basil, oregano and fennel to get that classic Starbucks sandwich taste. It will be on an artisan bun topped with a scrambled egg and cheddar cheese, so the hand-held breakfast will be more vegetarian-friendly than vegan.
We can’t say for sure what the breakfast sandwich will taste like because it has yet to appear in U.S. locations. Starting March 3, the Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich will be available at around 1,200 Starbucks locations across Canada. Here’s hoping the sandwich will make its way across the border soon.
When Will All Chains Have Meatless Options?
Soon, according to our forecast of fast food trends for 2020. Whether for health or environmental concerns, consumers are interested in eating less meat and purchasing plant-based options. Restaurant offerings like Burger King’s Impossible Whopper and Dunkin’s new Beyond Sausage Sandwich are just the start. Even McDonald’s is testing a plant-based P.L.T. burger using a meat alternative. (P.L.T. stands for plant, lettuce and tomato.)
If you’re craving bacon, though, don’t worry. The Bacon, Gouda & Egg Sandwich at Starbucks isn’t going anywhere!
