What are Souper Cubes?

Souper Cubes remove all the guesswork of freezing soups and leftover meals. They’re made of silicone and feature wells for stashing individual portions. There are multiple sizes available, ranging from 2 tablespoons to 2 cups. Each tray also comes with a lid.

To use, simply fill each well with freezer-friendly leftovers or make-ahead meals. The larger sizes can hold portions of soups and stews, pasta dishes, casseroles and meat fillings, while the smaller sizes are best suited for herbs, sauces and flavor enhancers. I’ve been using Souper Cubes in my home kitchen since September 2025. This is my honest review.

My order arrived quickly and well-packed. I tested both the 2-cup and 1-cup molds in the kale colorway. Right off the bat, I was impressed with the material. The silicone felt very sturdy, and I love that the top is reinforced with steel for greater stability. The Cubes are ready to use right away—just give them a quick wash in warm, soapy water or run them through the dishwasher.

Later that week, I was met with pasta leftovers. We had plans to be out of town the following days, so I knew it was the perfect time to test out the Souper Cubes. I grabbed the 2-cup mold and split the portion between the wells, complete with a dollop of pesto on top. I added the lid and popped ’em in the freezer for a rainy day.

A few days later, when looking for lunch inspiration, I saw my kale-green containers and knew I’d struck gold. I grabbed the Souper Cubes and popped out a pasta portion. Miraculously, nothing stuck. It was incredibly easy to pop the frozen leftover chunk into a pan, and I had a homemade lunch in mere minutes.

Now, I’ve tried a variety of methods to store leftovers—including plastic freezer bags and glass storage containers. Neither works as well as Souper Cubes. The bags are flimsy and hard to fill, especially with messy meals like soup. Plus, there’s a greater risk of PFA exposure. The glass containers work well until it’s time to eat. I either have to remember to thaw in the fridge for hours or run the container under warm water to pry the contents loose. (And risk a thermal shock explosion from the rapid temperature change.) Souper Cubes is an absolute game-changer.

Over the next two months, I stashed away soups, leftover mashed potatoes, pastas and even bone broth from our Thanksgiving turkey. Each meal popped right out for effortless reheating. I also love that the containers stack in the freezer for a minimal footprint.

If you have a lot of leftovers, you can use Souper Cubes as a starting point and then transfer to a freezer bag. That way, your containers aren’t stuck in purgatory until the very last craving for chili strikes.

My only complaint is that the containers don’t do a great job of protecting from freezer burn. In the name of science, I left bone broth in one of the cubes for two months, and in that time, it developed a healthy layer of ice crystals. To solve this problem, Souper Cubes recently released vacuum seal bags that encapsulate your leftovers and lock in freshness.

Plus, even after long-term storage, the Cubes don’t pick up scents and odors the way some other silicone products do. After washing, they looked (and smelled) good as new.

Right out of the box, Mary could assess the quality. “The trays are firm and sturdy, not flimsy like some silicone molds that don’t hold their shape,” she says. “The lids fit snugly for a tight seal, and the clear tops make it easy to see what’s inside without opening them. They get bonus points for the fun purple color and sprinkle design—super cute!”

Mary made a batch of her favorite pecan meltaway cookies, which have a tendency to stick together. “I rolled my freshly made dough into balls, dropped them into the tray, snapped the lid on and slid them into the freezer. The lid did flatten them just a bit, but nothing major. They still looked spherical (and pretty) after baking,” Mary explains. “My first thought after snapping on the lid was that it should be domed or raised to fit taller scoops, but honestly, the low-profile design is what makes these trays so freezer-friendly. My freezer was already jam-packed, and I still managed to slide them into the top drawer.”

While we wish the tray had 12 wells for a full dozen, the cookie tray is a smart solution for keeping ready-to-bake treats on hand without taking up too much freezer space.
