Determined to make this treat even more enjoyable, our makeover experts went to work slashing fat and calories.
First went the heavy cream, which was replaced with reduced-fat whipped topping to mimic the original’s decadent texture. Next, sugar substitute took the place of 1/2 cup of sugar called for in the recipe, lending sweetness without a large dose of calories.
With just these two simple swaps, Makeover Creamy Cranberry Salad came out tasting and looking just as great as the original, but with 42 percent fewer calories and 71 percent of the fat eliminated. The good news doesn’t end there! Cholesterol disappeared from the recipe, and saturated fat decreased from 8 g to a mere 2 g per serving!
