The people's princess enjoyed snacks on-demand in the palace kitchen.

This Is What Princess Diana Kept in Her Personal Snack Fridge

There are many delicious foods to eat when you work up a royal appetite. In fact, we know several of the dishes that members of the British royal family love to eat. Kate Middleton eats this breakfast every day, and she orders a spicy curry on takeout night. Meghan Markle is a fan of this salad for a light lunch. Queen Elizabeth enjoyed scrambled eggs, so her chef made them special with these two secret ingredients.
But dining at the palace comes with some pretty strict rules, so Princess Diana used to sneak off to the kitchen to enjoy a bite in peace. She’d pick a meal off of that day’s menu, sit on a chest freezer, and snack while chatting with the kitchen staff or reading the paper. She was in the kitchen so frequently that one of the chefs kept a fridge stocked full of snacks just for her!
What did Diana keep in her snack fridge?
In a recent interview, former royal chef Mervyn Wycherley noted Diana’s love of eating low-key meals in the kitchen. “There was a small fridge, and I used to leave things in the fridge that she liked, cold lamb cutlets and things like that,” he said. “So she could just snack whenever she wanted to.”
First, I love that Princess Diana had her own mini fridge. Second, this snack choice really threw me for a loop.
What exactly is a cold lamb cutlet?
I imagined her snack fridge would be full of things like cut-up fruit or string cheese, or maybe some leftover pizza. In fact, I wasn’t even sure what a cold lamb cutlet was! After some research, I discovered that a lamb cutlet is just a neatly trimmed lamb chop that can be served cold. It’s best enjoyed at a picnic or potluck, but if you want to channel Diana, eat it straight out of the fridge!
