What products are recalled?
If you haven’t reorganized your freezer in a while, now’s a good time. Perdue Farms recalled SimplySmart Organics Gluten-Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets—all 68,244 pounds of them! Why? Perdue Farms believes the nuggets are contaminated with wood. After three complaints were made in regard to the ready-to-eat snack, a cautious recall was issued. Here’s the full USDA statement. How do I know if I have one of these products?
The gluten-free nuggets were issued on October 25, 2018. If this date is stamped on your package, it’s affected by the recall.
Still not sure whether or not your bag is contaminated? Look at the UPC code on the back. If it’s unsafe, the UPC should say 72745-80656. It should also bear a Best By stamp dated 10/25/2019. A USDA inspection code saying P-33944 can also be found on the back of the bag. Any bag of Perdue SimplySmart Organics Gluten-Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets that has these telltale markings is not safe to consume.
I have one of these products! What should I do with it?
It’s better to just get rid of the bag than to gamble with it. Perdue Farms and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) warn consumers to get rid of it however you can. Simply toss it out or take it back to the place of purchase. Any grocery store should refund you.
So far, no one has been negatively affected by the afflicted nuggets. There are no medical reports right now, but out of caution, Perdue Farms still urges you to ditch those nuggs.
