Looking for a smarter approach to non-dairy milk? Meet Oatly—a creamy plant-based drink made from oat milk. It doesn’t contain any dairy, soy, nuts or gluten, and early adopters are madly in love with its texture and tasty flavor. Whether you’re lactose-intolerant, thinking about going vegan or don’t like how cow’s milk tastes, you’re in luck!
Oatly currently has three products available:
- Original: your basic go-to for cereals and drinking cold
- Chocolate: a treat with cocoa powder and cane sugar
- Barista Blend: oat milk that’s been specially designed to foam for coffee drinks
Just for good measure, all the Oatly oat milks are loaded with fiber, calcium and vitamins. The company calls its drink “liquid oats,” and the grains are broken down without being hyper-processed to maintain nutritional value. Plus, the oat milk is naturally sweet thanks to the oats. What’s not to love?
How to Use Oat Milk
The original and chocolate Oatly milks can be used any way you’d normally use cow’s milk, like in your cereal or to whip up a smoothie. (Here’s how to use it in overnight oats, too!) The higher-fat barista blend is used by pro baristas at coffee shops around the US because it gets all foamy and stands up to coffee like cow’s milk, which is a challenge for other non-dairy options. It also works perfectly for adding straight to your cup o’ java or tea at home.
Oatly got its start in Sweden in the ’90s, but didn’t make its way to the US until 2017. Now that it’s here, we can’t wait to try it in these delish 30-minute breakfast recipes.
