If you’re at the intersection of FoodTok and FitTok, you’ve probably gleaned videos of the Ninja Swirl by Creami. The new model of the coveted kitchen gadget is finally creeping into retail stores, making all our soft-serve ice cream dreams come true.
After all, a few years have passed since the original Ninja Creami debuted. Since then, influencers have been whipping up low-calorie ice cream treats with ingredients like protein shakes, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. Their efforts have spawned a #creami movement, leading to Facebook groups and countless TikTok videos dedicated to sharing new recipes.
Nearly four years after the original was released, Ninja has unveiled a new Creami machine. One major difference? A soft-serve dispenser.
We all scream for soft-serve ice cream! The Ninja Creami Swirl makes it effortless to whip up treats at home.
Videos featuring the all-new ice cream machine have been making the rounds on TikTok and Instagram for weeks now. We finally got our hands on the new machine *squeal* and used it to whip up tasty cookies and cream soft-serve.
The Creami Swirl has two primary buttons for soft-serve and scoop-able ice cream, as well as buttons for light ice cream, “creamifit” (a new addition for processing protein mix), frozen yogurt, fruit whip, frozen custard, sorbet, gelato and milkshakes. The buttons at the bottom let you retract, re-spin and mix in toppings, much like the original Ninja Creami.
The new machine, however, features upgraded technology—most notably a slot that allows you to place your churned pint inside and pull the lever to disperse picture-perfect soft-serve swirls.
Taste of Home Producer Linda Cheung put the all-new Ninja Creami Swirl to the test before its launch. “The process was very smooth,” Linda says, “and the machine is pretty self-explanatory with the provided quick-start instructions.”
Linda tested the new Creami Swirl by making a protein soft-serve. “I used a Fairlife Corepower vanilla protein shake for the base and froze it overnight,” she explains. “The next day, I ran the base underwater for about 60 seconds to thaw it a bit, then I put it in the machine and hit the ‘soft-serve’ button to spin (this is the feature of the machine that the original Ninja Creami has). After that, I took the pint out of the outer container, popped the soft-serve top on the pint, put it in the soft-serve section and dispensed it.”
“I’ve also tested the mix-ins button to make cookies and cream [soft-serve], and it came out great! The mix-ins are a 1-minute add-on feature you press to mix in any toppings (I used crushed Oreos),” Linda adds. “I haven’t tested it out for sorbet or milkshakes yet, but the [Taste of Home] test kitchen tested the sorbet feature, and it looks like it makes really great sorbet consistency.”
In our original Ninja Creami review, Editor Annamarie Higley used the ice cream maker to whip up Cookies and Cream and Pistachio ice cream from Ninja’s recipe guide. “I was in absolute awe. Creami is in no way a misnomer,” Annamarie notes. “I couldn’t get over the fact that there was a separate button for everything. It made the process so foolproof!”
The Creami isn’t the only Ninja product we love. We’ve also tested (and approved) a Ninja blender, outdoor pizza oven, cooler, single-serve coffee maker and ceramic cookware. Ninja gear is well-loved by our product testers and editors, who frequently rank it among the best—with a fair price point.
The Creami Swirl operates much like the original Creami, but you can insert the Creami container vertically into the machine and pull a dispensing lever to pour soft-serve.
You’ll also notice the disappearance of the smoothie bowl button with the new Creami Swirl, but you’ll also notice the addition of new buttons like frozen yogurt, frozen custard, fruit whip and creamifit. The new creamifit setting seems to be a direct response to the public interest in using the machine to make healthy, protein-packed ice cream. We asked, and Ninja listened.
If you’re running out of counter space for all your Ninja appliances (yes, it’s a real dilemma in my household), you should be warned that the Creami Swirl, thanks to its added new functions, is wider than the original Ninja Creami.
The editor-approved Ninja Creami gets a cool update. Say hello to the Ninja Creami Swirl that includes a built-in soft-serve dispenser!
The Ninja Creami Swirl is available from Ninja, Amazon and Crate & Barrel for $350. It’s expected to sell out fast, so if you want one, don’t wait.
You can shop the original Ninja Creami and the Ninja Creami Deluxe. The basic model is also sold elsewhere, such as at Amazon and Walmart.
