Apple is Releasing New Food Emoji This Year

Your text messages will get a bit more flavor when Apple releases new emoji later this year.

To celebrate World Emoji Day, Apple announced that more than 70 new emoji characters would be coming to iPhone, iPad and other Apple products! The emoji won’t appear on your keyboard until a free software update later this year, but the announcement was accompanied by a sneak preview of the new emoji, and several are food-related characters.

Cupcake

This iconic treat finally gets the icon treatment! The luscious-looking emoji features sprinkle-covered buttercream atop a vanilla cupcake. You don’t have to wait until the next software update, though—get your sprinkle fix with recipes for our best vanilla cupcakes.

Leafy Greens

It’s technically an image of bok choy, but this leafy green emoji would also make a perfect stand-in for lettuce or kale.

Lobster

The lobster emoji is a re-introduction. It originally debuted earlier this year, but the illustration was anatomically incorrect as they gave the lobster only eight appendages. It has since been corrected to show all 10 (two claws and four sets of legs). Celebrate with Red Lobster copycat recipes.

Mango

Did you know that mango is the world’s most popular fruit? It’s about time it became an emoji! Keep an eye out for our favorite mango recipes, including a recipe for a super-refreshing mango lassi.

Apple's mooncake emojiApple

Mooncake

Not to be confused with an American moon pie, a mooncake is a traditional Chinese pastry filled with red bean paste or lotus seed paste. This delicacy is typically eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which celebrates the harvest moon.

…and More?

Other rumored food-related characters set to be released later this year include a bagel (likely cut in half to distinguish it from a doughnut) and a salt shaker. We’re hungry for Apple’s new emoji already!
