When Post introduced its Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding cereal, we went bananas. Now, Kellogg’s has a new cereal and we’re not sure how to describe our excitement about the release of Banana Crème Frosted Flakes! But it’s hard to deny the apeel of this flavor.
About the Banana Crème Frosted Flakes
The new Banana Crème Frosted Flakes sound like a banana cream pie delivery system…in a bowl. We’re talked about golden, crunchy cornflakes coated with sweet frosting that’s flavored with ripe banana, cream and vanilla. We’d love to mix-and match with the Chocolate Frosted Flakes to create a bowl full of chocolate banana cream pie.
We’re guessing that Banana Crème Frosted Flakes probably won’t make our list of the five healthiest cereals you can eat, but we’re probably going to buy a box anyway. The cereal will be available in grocery stores everywhere beginning in January, says a spokesperson from Kellogg’s.
Why Kellogg’s Brought the Flavor Back
The idea of banana cream-flavored Frosted Flakes might be new, but the idea of banana-flavored Frosted Flakes is not. Back in the early ’80s, Kellogg’s gave us Banana Frosted Flakes, which had flakes with real bits of dehydrated banana. It was popular among only a small group of people, and so Kellogg’s nixed the banana flavor in 1984.
But banana fans never forgot, and there’s been a quiet rumble to bring the flavor back, including a petition on Change.org and all sorts of posts on Instagram:
Well, apparently Kellogg’s got the memo and updated the Frosted Flakes flavor in the process. We can’t wait until January!
