All Target Stores Will Be Permanently Closed on Thanksgiving Moving Forward
You will no longer be able to run last minute Thanksgiving day errands at your favorite red department store.
Have a list of ingredients for your delicious Thanksgiving sides and desserts this Thursday? Then head to the store as soon as possible. You may have been able to run last-minute errands on Turkey Day in years past, but few chain stores will be open on Thanksgiving this year.
In fact, Target has announced plans to close its doors on Thanksgiving forever.
Why Is Target Closed on Thanksgiving?
The news came to Target employees in an announcement to the Target team on Nov. 22, 2021.
In his announcement, Target CEO Brian Cornell said, “So today, I’m making it official: We’re going to keep our stores closed on future Thanksgivings, too. What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard — one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours.”
He also mentioned that employees on East Coast expressed joy and gratitude over the decision to close stores for the family holiday.
Will Target Open on Thanksgiving in the Future?
Not likely. “The response was so positive that we’ll carry it forward this year, keeping our Target stores closed all day long on Thanksgiving Day,” said Cornell.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of stores open on Thanksgiving. Plus, Target will have its doors back open early for plenty of Black Friday deals. So remember to stock up on your favorite Target items now before it’s too late. It’s time to make a Thanksgiving shopping list (and check it twice)!
