Updated: May 08, 2023

You can have All-Day Breakfast again—at home!

We’ve been pretty bummed since we found out that McD’s all-day breakfast may not be returning to menus. While some locations are still secretly serving it up if you ask, we miss being able to get our hands on a Sausage McMuffin and hash browns for an easy breakfast-for-dinner or midnight snack!

While the McDonald’s breakfast menu in Canada might include a bagel smeared with Nutella, there’s no doubt that the famous hash browns are beloved around the world. So when we came across this easy copycat recipe with just 3 ingredients, we knew we’d found a winner!

The Best Copycat McDonald’s Hash Browns Recipe

This recipe by TikTok user @saucedupfoods gives you an easy way to make perfectly crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside hash browns—and it’s super quick! All you need are russet potatoes, an egg and some cornstarch.

  1. Grab two russet potatoes, peel them, cut them into thirds and boil them for about 8 minutes. This parboils or partially cooks them.
  2. Let them cool and grate them.
  3. Add one egg and a tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix it up, then shape the hash brown patties on a tray covered in parchment paper. Pop them into the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Fry them on high heat and voila! You’ve got hash browns ready for breakfast.

Make It a Breakfast Feast

Why stop with regular hash browns? Turn ’em into a delicious, creamy casserole or pair ’em with an Egg McMuffin made at home.

And if you won’t settle for anything lesser than the original breakfast, swing by your local McD’s before 11 a.m., and don’t forget to grab a blueberry muffin on your way out.
