Before You Begin

Don’t go green. Make sure that you’re using ripe bananas—this will make sure the end result is sweet and creamy, like soft serve of summers past. How to Make Banana Nice Cream


  • 4 medium ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup fat-free plain yogurt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
  • Fresh raspberries, optional

Step 1: Cool things down

Thinly slice bananas and transfer them to a large, resealable plastic freezer bag. Arrange the slices in a single layer and freeze overnight.

In a food processor, pulse frozen bananas until finely chopped.

Pro Tip: You want to hit the sweet spot here. It should take about one minute for the bananas to become thoroughly pulsed and processed—if you blend them for too long, the nice cream may start to melt too quickly.

Make it Your Own

One of the many joys of banana nice cream is that the basic recipe serves as the canvas for you to experiment with your favorite flavors. In these cases, skip the raspberries and use the banana as a base to let your imagination loose—everything from spices like cinnamon and cardamom to sweeteners like honey and unique flavors like green tea powder can customize your banana nice cream.

  • Chocolate-Peanut Butter: In lieu of the raspberries, add in two tablespoons each of creamy peanut butter and cocoa powder. If you don’t like peanut butter, feel free to substitute your favorite nut butter.
