Editor’s Note: This recall has expanded to include frozen toaster waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has shared a recall from TreeHouse Foods that affects frozen waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes. This recall includes products sold throughout the United States at Kroger, Publix, Target and Walmart, among other grocery chains.

Here’s what you need to know about the frozen waffle recall.

What caused the recall?

TreeHouse Foods products were found to be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that causes foodborne illness. The infection can be serious for pregnant women, people older than 65 and people with weakened immune systems, according to Mayo Clinic.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the frozen waffles yet, but Taste of Home will continue to monitor the situation.

What products have been recalled?

The recalled products were distributed throughout the United States under more than 20 brand names, including Good & Gather, Great Value, Kodiak Cakes and Simple Truth. It includes different flavors and packaging sizes for each brand.

To determine whether your waffles or pancakes are part of the recall, look for the UPC on the back of the carton as well as the Lot Code and Best By Date for these products on the end of the carton. If your carton matches the photos of the affected products from the FDA (found in the FDA’s recall announcement linked above), then the food is not safe to eat.

What should I do next?

You should check your freezer for any of the products listed above. If you have any of the recalled waffles or pancakes, toss them out or return the product to your grocery store for credit.

If you ate any of the affected frozen waffles or pancakes and have symptoms of listeria poisoning like fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Per the Mayo Clinic, symptoms might begin a few days after you’ve eaten contaminated food, but it could take 30 days or more for symptoms of infection to appear.
