How to Make Elvis Presley’s Favorite Sandwich
If you’re ever in need of lunch inspiration, some of our favorite celebrities actually have great sandwich ideas. Harrison Ford’s grilled cheese hack has become a staple in my household. Matthew McConaughey takes his tuna salad very seriously. And Michael B. Jordan quietly challenged my idea of what’s possible at McDonald’s with one sly addition to his breakfast order.
But perhaps one of the most famous sandwiches of all time is the King’s sandwich. No, not that King—I’m talking about Elvis, of course. In honor of director Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis Presley concert film, I thought it was a perfect time to revisit this iconic sandwich. After all, I can’t help falling in love with food.
How to Make the Elvis Sandwich at Home

The music legend loved a truly unique combination of peanut butter, banana and bacon on his sandwiches. I’ll just say, don’t knock it until you try it. The Elvis sandwich is good!
At first glance, this might seem like a ridiculous grouping of ingredients. But if you break it down, it makes sense. Peanut butter is creamy, nutty and smooth. Banana is sweet and starchy. And the bacon is crispy, salty and fatty. All of those different textures and flavors combine so nicely on some toasted bread. In fact, the only tweak I would make is to add a drizzle of maple syrup—or if you really wanna up the ante, some hot honey.
One of the best things about this combination is that it’s totally customizable. Of course, you can use any nut butter in place of peanut butter—cashew butter in particular sounds delicious. The amount of banana is also up to you, as is the decision to slice it or smash it. You can use slices of bacon, or bacon bits. I was once at a restaurant for brunch where they served Elvis French toast, complete with candied bacon on top. That was one of the best brunch meals I’ve ever had. I guess all I have to say to Elvis is thank you, thank you very much for this sandwich!
