No trip to the happiest place on Earth is complete without a stop in Adventureland for Dole Whip. This soft, creamy pineapple soft serve is the perfect pick-me-up on a hot day. And while the treat isn’t exclusive to Disney—you can find Dole Whip at zoos, fairs and, of course, at the Dole Plantation in Hawaii—it’s a definite favorite of park fanatics.
Today, we’re going to show you how to make this light, fruity whip at home. It’s perfect for warm nights, days spent at home with the kids or any time you’re desperate for a taste of vacation. (These tropical desserts will do the trick, too.)
How to Make Dole Whip
- 3 cups frozen pineapple, divided
- 1/2 cup milk or pineapple juice
- 2 Tbsp. powdered sugar, optional
- Garnish: Fresh pineapple wedges and cherries, optional
- Blender or food processor (I used the Calphalon ActiveSense Blender)
- Piping bags, optional (A plastic bag with the tip cut off will work, too! Here’s a full how-to.)
Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients
Then, load the blender or food processor with 1 cup of pineapple and your liquid of choice. Start blending, adding the remaining 2 cups of pineapple a few pieces at a time. This helps your machine keep up with the fruit and avoids any frozen chunks ending up in the final product.
Editor’s Tip: You must use frozen pineapple for this recipe. However, you’re welcome to cut a fresh pineapple into chunks and pop ’em in the freezer until solid. This will lend a slightly sweeter, more pineapple-y flavor than if you were to use store-bought frozen fruit.
Step 2: Blend, Blend Baby
Pulse until the ingredients reach a soft-serve like consistency, stopping as needed to scrape down the sides of the pitcher. Now is also a good time to quickly sample the whip to see if you’d like to add the sweetener. Some pineapples are naturally sweeter than others.
If you have a low-powered blender, you may also need to add more liquid to get the fruit to fully blend. This will lead to a thinner Dole Whip, so plan to pop it in the freezer for 30-45 minutes before serving. (Or, top with pineapple juice and enjoy as a Dole Whip float!)
Step 3: Garnish, Serve and Enjoy
Once your Dole Whip is ready to go, transfer it to a chilled serving bowl or a hollowed-out pineapple half. If you want to get those Instagram-worthy swirls, place the whip in a piping bag and squeeze it out around the perimeter of your bowl, building up layers as you go. Garnish with pineapple wedges and cherries, if desired. Finally, grab a spoon, queue up the Enchanted Tiki Room song and get ready to enjoy your Disney staycation!

- Strawberry Banana: Use 1 frozen banana, cut into slices, and 2 cups chopped, frozen strawberries. Garnish with a fresh strawberry.

Is Dole Whip Vegan? How About Dairy-Free?
Yes—and yes! In addition to reminding us of our favorite Disney vacations, we love Dole Whip for how healthy it is, too. You can use any milk in this recipe—including dairy-free options. Coconut milk, cashew milk, almond milk and soy milk are all great vegan choices.
