If it was up to us, we’d go to Disneyland every summer. Unfortunately, that isn’t always possible—but we can bring some of our favorite Disney Parks recipes home.
A few years ago, Disney gave its fans a little treat via the Disneyland app: a Dole Whip recipe you can blend up yourself—and it’s super simple! While the recipe is technically for “frozen pineapple treat,” it’s pretty obvious it’s meant to be similar to the signature sweet ‘n’ sour treat you get at the park. We can’t wait to “whip” it up!
Why We Love the Disney Dole Whip
What’s not to love? It has everything you need for the summer—sweet ice creamy goodness, tangy pineapple juice and chunks of ice cold pineapple, all mixed up into one delicious treat. It’s the perfect way to take a break and rehydrate while you’re running from one ride to the next!
Plus, a dose of tropical deliciousness is sometimes just what you need to perk up—especially when you’re feeling down or it’s a dreary, rainy day outside. We’re definitely looking forward to making a little Dole Whip of our own at home, swirl and all.
How to Make a Copycat Disney Dole Whip
Making this refreshing treat at home couldn’t be easier. Here’s a closer look at the step-by-step directions provided through the Disney app and shared by the Disney Food Blog.
Ingredients
- 1 big scoop vanilla ice cream
- 4 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 cups frozen pineapple
Directions
Step 1: Blend
Add all the ingredients to a blender. Then, blend until smooth.
Step 2: Scoop
Scoop the thick slush into a piping bag, if you have one, or a plastic bag with a corner cut off.
Step 3: Pipe!
Slowly squirt the Dole Whip into a bowl to get that signature swirl. If you’ve never done it before, here’s how to use a piping bag.
Editor’s Tip: To make an official Disneyland Dole Whip recipe at home, invest in Dole’s Pineapple Soft Serve Mix. It comes in a food service-size bag but will work in the average person’s ice cream maker.
Dole Whip Recipe Tips
How can I get the perfect swirl?
You already know what you need for the swirl, but if you want it to be absolutely picture perfect, get a large open star tip to add to your piping bag. You’ll find a ton of other uses for this versatile decorator’s tip —like piping frosting on cakes and cupcakes, and piping whipped cream.
How can I turn it into a float?
Add a few splashes of milk or coconut milk so the mixture is more liquid-y. Alternatively, you can pipe the mixture on top of a glass of pineapple juice.
How can I make Dole Whip dairy-free?
The real Disney Dole Whip that you’d get at the park is dairy-free (which is why the original version isn’t considered ice cream). But this official Disney recipe does contain dairy. To make it dairy-free, replace the regular ice cream with vegan ice cream.
What fruit can I use instead of pineapple?
Watermelon, for sure! Freeze cubes of watermelon and juice the extra in a blender to replicate Disney’s Watermelon Dole Whip. Cantaloupe and honeydew melons would also taste great!
How do I freeze leftovers?
Store leftover Dole Whip in an airtight container with a piece of plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming. Keep the container in the back of the freezer where the temperature doesn’t fluctuate as much as it does by the door. If stored properly, it should last in the freezer for about a month.
Now that you’ve got your favorite theme park treats, it might be time to tackle your favorite Disney movie recipes. And for a winter take on some Disneyland recipes, take a look at these Disneyland holiday food items.
